I had a guy at the Polaris place tell me that the 2001 Sp500's would sell for about $6300 the other day. He has 2000 models on closeout for $6100 right now. Sounded good. Then....

Today I called over just to see what kind of BS I could hear. I got another cocky *** salesman (didn't tell him my name by any means) and this guy said that they would be about $7200. Before he finished saying that, I told the guy that he was crazy and that this was absolutely ridiculous. Thats over the MSRP and nobody sells quads for MSRP, at least not many of them if they try. He said the old ones were $6100 and I asked what he was asking for 2000 models before this closeout started. He said $6700 and I laughed again and told him that they are no higher than $6300 every day of the year just 50 miles north. He said the cost on the 2001 models was more than they were selling 2000 models for. Bull crap! I didn't bother saying anything else. Just that he was no help but thanks anyway.

This guy pulled that Freight and Prep BS on my too. Next time I'm over there, I'm going to remind him that he buys them in quantity and that the freight is prepaid to them. I know the guy that delivers to them. They charge a freight charge for freight that they don't even pay. Thats 100% profit. Obviously I won't be buying anything from this racket, but I will enjoy pissing him off and wasting his time next time I get the chance. Better yet, I'll just hit up the other salesman again and see if he still feels the same on that $6300.

that salesmans line is typical for when the new models come out. hes hoping that his customers dont come on to this forum and find out the REAL prices. i agree $7200 is outragious for a 01. but im sure he has found people that believe his line and would pay that much. the only machine i would pay $7200 for is a sp700.

Andy:

If SC is closer than CO try contacting Reevesfishman@aol.com (Mike Reeves Polaris America Lexington SC) for a price. He is a nice guy and for a bonus you could book a tour at the Honda ATV factory in Timmonsville SC since you are a honda fan too.

Do you actually intend buying a Sportsman, Andy? Trading in the AC and/or Honda?

Pretty close to it there Wilson. I've had it out on the front lot for the last week and a half. My sisters boyfriend is looking hard at it. If he gets serious, I may pull off the big tires and sell it to him for a good price. That would slow me down as far as getting another, but it would be better than what I would get for trade in. Plus i would be keeping the Claws.

I'm still weighing all the Sportsman pros and cons. I ought to be an expert at this as many times as I have considered it over the past year or so. If you ever saw my AC, it looks brand new. I'm pretty particular about it and there aren't even any real scratches on the racks. Just the front bumper, and no dents at all. The plastic isn't scratched up, everything is all slick. This led me to believe that I won't abuse a quad that costs me a lot of cash, so I pretty much have gotten over the reliability factor and Polaris.

The fun factor is the thing that gets me here now. I've come to the conclusion that I would just have more fun on a sportsman. Still, it would do anything the AC would do.

Don't anyone get me wrong on the AC. I love it. I think it is great, and would reccomend it to anyone who was in the market for a quad with those qualities.

Give me some thoughts here Tree Farmer. You're always good for a long insightfull post. Tell me something that might push me on over the fence.

While flattered you solicit my input, Andy, I would never presume to advise a gentleman on his choice of refreshments, girlfriends, or ATV's! You, alone, must choose.

You could always wait for the Magizine shoot out of the big guy's and know that your ride was once again the "KING".Nice being on the wining side.Only kidding silly question, have you ever spent much time on a 500SP?if not thats what you need to do then you could make up your mind easier.I really think listening to you that you'll not be happy until you do get one.But seem to have the jitters for some reason,it's only a machine and not a all or nothing decision.I really think from my own experience that you would be happy with it,but I say that with not haveing any experience with CAT.I just know that I have never talked to anyone personaly that regretted thier decision to buy the 500SP.Just my .02.The final decision is on your shoulders. I know I would like it. I've never driven one anywhere other than a dealership, but I've seen pictures of them doing some cool stuff. The only thing weighing on my mind is whether or not to get rid of a perfectly good machine just to get a new one. I'm running the numbers on price and stuff right now. Maybe Saturday I'll drive up to Fayetteville and ride them again. Check on price and price haggling. If I sell mine for say, $4500, then I figure at worst, I spend an extra 2 grand on the Sportsman. Is it worth 2 grand to get a new quad. I don't know. I'll just have to think about it. I may call a few dealers a ways off from here to get some more price figures. I can drive a couple hours if it means saving a couple hundred $$$'s. If nothing else, I have something to post about here to amuse myself.
