I've got around 300 miles on 2000 SP 500, and top speed is about 49 or 50 mph. I was thinking it should be closer to 55 or so. Anybody out there with any info, please reply.

Polaris did make some clutching changes on quads produced after 3/31/00. I wonder if this is a factor in your case?

Other riders have mentioned hitting a performance wall at about 35 MPH. with slower acceleration after that.

Somebody mentioned changing the main jet to 162.5 that may be something to consider.

Also, what type of surface are you running on? They are faster on asphalt than gravel.

As far as altitude goes I'm in the flatlands of Illinois. And when I checked for top end speed I was on asphalt. Thanks for the replies, I seemed to remember somebody with a post some time ago refering to top end speed and it was faster than 50. I'll have to contact my dealer,my warranty is about to expire. Hopefully that should be covered.

Somebody said that a stretched out belt will cause it to go slower too, but I don't know how accurate that is.
