Default 250 top end rebuild help

The only way to know what size piston to get is to tear it down and measure the bore with an inside mic or a bore gage. A good machine shop can measure the tapper and wear on the bore. Most oversized pistons have oversize #'s stamped into the top of them.
Sorry, can't give you rebuild info on an 87 cyclone.

Doc is right. Take it to a good machine shop and they should be able to tell you if it needs to be bored out or honed and what size it is. Your local Polaris dealer may have a machine shop they use that will be helpfull. You wont need too many special tools. You will need a base gasket, top end gasket, exhaust flange gasket. A torque wrech, metric sockets and wrenches. If you get a new piston you may need a pin retaining clip puller, but it can be done without one. The one tool I would say you need to try to buy or borrow for sure is this torque wrench adapter from Motion Pro. Many bike shop will have it too. It comes in handy for torqueing the cylinder base nuts.
