Default predator?

addict,

I recently bought a 2005 predator std and love it. The only complaint would be the week steering stem. I rolled while riding and bent the steering stem and handle bars. It was a pretty good crash but didn't seem hard enough where the stem should have bent. A lot of others who post have experienced the same problem. As someone else mentioned, where the plastic meets the tank the design is pretty weak. One side broke but was easily fixed with a plastic welder and it looks good as new. Hope this helps. If you have any specific questions I'll be glad to try and answer them for you.
One Last note. I test dove an 04 for a weekend and there is little difference. Minor seat changes. Harder to find neutral, Shorter steering stem, and no reverse.

I realize most don't think like this, but when you bend the stem, it is a good reason to replace it with HPD's anti vibe stem, and get some new handlebars too(less viberation).........

Anything useful to contribute?

There are a few recurring issues with the pred, but I cannot remember exactly which ones carried into the 04 model year and which were fixed. Hopefully someone will post an intelligent answer to your question. Sorry for the poor input.
seems like good info 2 me

there are 2 brake issues with the pred, one is rubbing and causing a leak in the line (covered by the dealer, tell them to talk to the dealer and make sure it has the upgrade kit before he takes it) the other is brake drag which is cured by putting brake grease on the bolts that the pads ride on, doesnt take all the drag out, but a good amount.

Tell your friend to go through the bike with a wrench, it is his life and im sure he wants to be safe. I have had 2 preds (03/04tld) both needed some tightening

keep and eye on the nut that holds the swing arm on, check it with a torque wrench every few months

if they ride mx, look the frame over frequently

use the clutch and change the oil as recommended

other than that, rip it!

Thanks guys for all the help. The dealer tried to sell him one new and one used.
I went to take a look at them because he said it was setup for dunes and told
him it was new.Maybe in cali you might find that but in MI.They also bumped the
price by 900 since his last visit.Anyway he walked and didnt buy them.
Again thanks for your help it is greatly appreciated.
