help w/ xplorer
#1
ran my 400 xplorer too deep in the water this weekend. spashed enough water in the airbox that it died and wont start. haven't had time yet to play with it besides checking the plugs. Anything easy to do before I take the carb out and clean it?? thanks

Remove the plug and crank the engine over to expell any water that may be in it. Definately drain the carb. Change the rest of your fluids too. You may have to do it a few times. Also drain your clutch housing. If it was kinda nasty water, I would clean the clutches out too.

Drain recoil housing and starter drain bolts. (take off skid) Drain and change counterbalance oil(Must Do)take spark plug out and pull over with recoil multiple times with starter and recoil plugs out. Sank my 400 this summer

ok guys I still need help. The plug is firing good, and I cleaned and drained the carb. Drained the fluids as suggested and changed. I have the air box off and will still not start. The carb seemed fine and when I hold my hand over the carb where the air box goes I do get gas on my hand. which tells me I am getting fuel. I sprayed starting fluid in the carb and still wont start. my next step in the morning is to drain the gas just incase water went in somewhere but Im all out of ideas. I have also used two different spark plugs just in case one was messed up. any suggestions???

I sank my old 400 xploder on several occasions ,it was alittle tricky to get running after the sinkings ,on mine there would be water in the crankcase that I would have to get out first there is a drain for it on the bottm of crankcase it is the same type of drain screw as is used for the counterbalance drain (small phillups head screw i think),then once you have all the water out put the choke on and turn it over it should start but will probably quit again ,just keep starting it with the choke and playing with the choke on and off to keep it running as long as possible,it may take a while because it will still be picking up water residue from the crankcase,it may take several good rides to get rid of all the water(i.e will be running fine then just quit )but eventually will get rid of it.good luck.

Take your carb off and clean the pilot jet .Bet it is stopped up.You need to be able to see through it end to end and the holes on the sides.
