I depend on my winch.....it could be a two day walk back out if its not going .....and around here...that could be very serious...even if I had to walk only 10 km's ...I sure like to know that the gear Ive got will get my out of a very comon situation!

I have been useing that same winch for a few months now. It works really well. I go riding with a group that has 600-700 sp's. Well they like the deep mud and I have been able to pull them out of every situation. I did not use the supplied controller but instead I got a self centering rocker winch switch from Lowes for about 6 bucks. It is mounted on the instrument pod and it works really great. If you need to know the wiring just PM me and I will tell you. Once you get the remote apart it will look like spaghetti inside. I know the proper way to wire the winch with the rocker switch. I have a friend that rides a 400 arctic cat with the same winch and he has had no problems with it yet in a year so far. The good thing is that even if you have a problem HF will exchange it for another one. It is kinda noisey but I can deal with that. I will try to get pics of it up in a few days. You cant beat it for 50 bucks!

in reference to 2manytoys post, i wonder if you could just take the two buttons from the handheld controller, drill two holes and mount the in/out buttons in the pod?
I forgot, also do you connect the wires directly to the battery or to the magnetic switch, solenoid thats mounted on the frame near the battery?

if it works then more power to ya, hopefully it has enough power to pull yourself or others in and mounts ok to your quad. the only thing I wouldn't know about is the remote they show. you may want to look into getting a handlebar mounted switch. good luck hope it works out.

I was looking at these the other day too. I had the same questions. How would it fair on an ATV. I am not a mudder and only trail ride. I have been stuck and few times that I needed some help to get out. Having a winch for those occasional times would be great. It would even be better if I only had to spend $50.
I guess I would like to hear from some of you who have experience what you do and how often you use it? How long do you use it during a single incident? What mounting plate did you purchase for it to attach to your Polaris? Will it attach and fit on a 2004.5 sportsman?

It is made for an atv. It works really well. I did use a different switch. I was able to pull a sp600 and scrammy 500 out at the same time that were both dead in the water. Granted it may not be as quick as a warn or ramsey but it worked perfect for the situation. I use it alot when riding or even around the house. Chicago Electric (harbor freight) makes these winches for Superwinch. Superwinch just puts thier name on it and sells them for $250 at places like cabellas or Dennis Kirk.

I would go for the higer rating of it though. The 2,000lb cheap winch won't hold up as well. I would go for either 2,500 or 3,000 lb rating. I have the 2,000 and it won't pull me out as well because when i need to use the winch I am already stuck hard. It pulls a little then cuts out, you let it cool, but by the time you do you are sunk lower in ithe muck. I'd rather have one that has a stronger pull, so it doesn't have to work as hard. Other than that i would rather buy a $50 winch and replace parts every 2 years (mine first is still going after 3 years) Than the $300 winch and replace stuff every 5 years.
