Default 2005 700EFI Problem???

I am wondering if anybody elses 700 EFI acts like mine. In low range if the the throttle is pinned the bike will pull hard for about six feet. After that the motor will act like it is hitting a rev limiter. All this starts at around 3000RPM and continues until the motor hits the real rev limiter at around 6200RM. The bike will barely pull the front wheels off the ground, definitely will not ride a wheelie. Bike has been in the shop for a week now and no answer yet. Kinda sucks considering that I bought the bike two weeks ago. Problem only happens in low range and when the throttle is pinned. Really sucks when my wifes carbed 700 will smoke my EFI. hmmm, not sure what you are saying....it pulls from 3000-6250 and then shuts down when it hits the rev limiter?

I cannot pull wheelies easily at the 6000+ altitude that I ride at, mainly clutching. I can do it more on the road than on the dirt, or need a slight dirt mound to get the front end off. Then again I have a brushguard and 3.0ci winch on the front to lift.

So, not sure what you are saying....are you saying it stalls between those RPM's or your just pissed because you can't pull a wheelie?

Your hitting the rev limiter! A combination of belt slip and wheel spin is causing the rpm's to climb to fast. Most of the EFI's I have seen have this problem to some degree. Two ways to correct this: 1. You can spend about $150-200 on a clutch kit. 2. Or you can go to your local dealer and order a set of of 800 weights (60 grams, preffered) or 28.5 gram weights.

The weights cause the clutch to engage sooner which reduces wheel spin and transfers the torque to the ground more efficently. A added befit is they will cause the primary clutch to grab the belt alittle tighter, also reducing wheel spin.

Keep in mind, this will not prevent the rev limiter from engaging but it will make it ALOT harder to hit it. It will also get alot more of the power to the ground.

I have the same problem, took mine to the dealer. They said they couldn't find anything wrong.

Technically they were correct, there is nothing wrong with the machine. They are designed as Sport Utility for the average rider. For the average rider they seldom touch the limiter.

I am telling you heavier weights will do the trick!!!

does your efi show any signs of belt slippage? smell squeel ???

o and elkbow i think hes saying that his atv will pull hard right off the line then when it hits 3000 rpms it kicks out until it hits the real rev limiter at 6200

I have an 800 and it does the same thing........ The rev limiter will kick in more in the dirt & sand. If you try it on dry pavement it won't happen as often. The 800 is nothing but power, I mean this thing will bring the front end off the ground with no problem!!

No signs of belt slippage. Definitely not a wheel spin problem. Does it on concrete or dirt, terrain does not matter. Tire size does not make a difference either. Does it with stock tires, 27's and 28's. If it was a belt slippage problem it would be even worse in high range. Just hard to beleive that it is hitting a rev limiter when the motor is still building RPM's. Any rev limiter I have ever dealt with held the motor at a certain RPM and did not rev any higher. May have to try a clutch kit or the heavier weights. Just real annoying when my wifes carbed 700 runs better than my EFI.

Kuntry,

How do you like the Dyno-Jet Power Commander? What all does it allow you to do? Did it make very much of a difference?

Trying to remeber my 96 Xplorer 300- Why use the low range at all? (I assume the 700's have the PVT) I think I remember the Xplorer having a rev limiter or controlled gearing in low that doesn't allow the engine to go much more than 10mph. The idea of low is to pull or climb and not go fast, right? Try high. If I am way off base here, nevermind me.
