Tired of pred brakes!!!!!!!!
#1
I'm pissed at this damn pred.........I can't take the front brakes anymore!!!!! I spun my front wheel today(by spinning the wheel you would think it would spin even further).......and it spun about 1/2-3/4 of a turn........that is crap. I don't understand why these brakes are always pressurized.......when you loosen the bolts that hold it together, the rotor then spins freely.......you hit the brakes, and it tightens back up, and doesn't loosen.........On top of that, I was taking them apart, and didn't see a little clip thing on the end of a bolt, and it shot off somewhere, and I have to run clear to the dealers to get that little $.50 piece..........
The good thing is I got my inline coolers in, and they look real good!!!!
For those who care: I have been noticing on my pred that a lot of bolts are comming loose.........my gas tank bolt was loose today, and almost fell out!! Also about every hose clamp was loose too!!! Some of my front end bolts are loose too.

Brad the thing to do would be to disassemble both front brake calipers and clean them up. If there is any rust building up on the piston that could be the problem. Also the o-rings could be to stiff, perhaps Polaris might have a new updated kit for this. I will check there web site for updates.

No updates from polaris or any other company. A fix has not yet been found. I've been searchin for months now and have found nothing. But really how much can it effect your performance? Not much. I still have no problem beating raptors, ds650's, the 400's so i just ignore it.

Ernie........thanks, but no rust(I cleaned up some on the pins) and no updates that I know of..........
2004........How much can it hurt your performance.........I'd say a lot.......the wheel only turns a 1/2 turn(with me turning it hard) take that times two wheels, and you have some major drag........Think how much faster you would be without the drag.
PS......The fix that I am kinda looking into is using a master cylinder off of a 250/200/400ex or a 400sport, and the brake handle and resivor.............and replacing them.
The predator brakes just don't release for some reason, when you squeeze them they stop the rotor(good)......but then don't pull away from the rotor so it spins freely again.
But, like I said, check your bolts over!!!! I also found one up in the front(on the small tie rod near steering post)....it was loose, causing major play in my steering.......the bolt ended up not tightening up, so I replaced it......

Its nothing to do with the master cylinder, resevoir, or brake handle. Its a seal in the caliper that gets dirt in it and starts to stick, but hey its your cash try it out and see wut happens.

i've talked to 2 people that swapped out the whole front brake system....one went with the brakes of a 400 scrami, and the other used a 400ex set up but had to change the throttle to as the brake lever wouldn't clear the pred throttle

Brad, out of curiosity, do you know if the hydraulic system is holding pressure, or if the calipers themselves are binding up? If you still have it apart, get them to bind, then open 1 of the bleeder screws on the caliper. See if the fluid comes out under any pressure or if it just dribbles out. (Remeber to pump the brakes back up when you're done tho) It'd be easier to narrow down and fix the problem when it could be narrowed down to either the hydraulic system or the calipers hanging up on either the sliders or the pistons sticking out. If you don't have a whole lot of experience with hydraulic brakes, shoot me a pm and I'll walk you through step by step.

it's a known issue on the pred "BRAKE DRAG" the only fix i've heard of is using springs to hold the pads back...it works but then you have to work 2wice as hard to stop by pumping the brakes to get them to close!
