I agree that the BF is not as advanced with out EFI, but it sure has a nice lockup system for the 4wheel drive. I also really liked there engine although it should have bee fuel injected by now.

The KQ was really nice as well, I found it being a lot lighter was a plus. When I drove it around it felt a lot more nimble than the Polaris. But after climbing back on the 800 I was sold by the sound of the big twin with dual exhaust. I also loved the tires and wheels on the 800, the KQ had the lowest end tires I think I have ever seen. so I would have had to change those immediately. I think Polaris's added features also sold it, like the incredible storage, most comfortable seat, and the pod mounted display is a really nice touch with the built in tach.

Jinks,
Yes I am going with the Thumb warmer as well, I have gone without before and yes your thumb freezes.

Although the test drive was only in the dealers back alley. I found it a really tough decision as they all where great quads. The Polaris in my view just out-shined the others, it does have a few cons but I think I made a good choice (i hope)
I am planning on picking it up in mid January. I added the brush bar and the mid level windshied, and heated hand grips.
Congrats Joel123!

Just wondering what you consider "cons" on the 800?

Thanks,

Hi,
The biggest complaint ( I'll probably get flamed for this) I have is the one drawback of the Polaris automatic 4 wheel drive system. That is the lack of 4 wheel lockup going downhill. I find if you are descending a steep incline on a loose surface that the back wheels will tend to lockup as the machine runs away. I know there are ways to handle this but It is still a drawback with the Polaris auto system IMHO anyway.
The other con is the rear disk brake, It works well but I think that the BF and the KQ have a much improved design. With all this aside the Polaris Sportsman is still one assume quad. I looked at the cons and pros and the Polaris in my mind outshines the others. Of course this is just my opinion.

Jimmy, what part of Clinton Township are you in, just south-west of St. Johns here.
Clinton Twp is 20 miles north of Detroit, near Mt clemens and Sterling Hights close to M-59 and M-53 a few miles west of I-94.
St Johns is the very south west corner of the state, right?

You got it, I am just north of Lansing. I thought we were close enough to do some riding.

Mine too. too bad there wasnt a way to wire the ebs with the 4 wheel drive system or at least have a switch to lock in the 4wheel drive for that purpose. Can ELKBOW come up with something? hehe

Search: there is a way to get ebs on all four wheels. It involves spinning the wheels in reverse to engage all four wheels, then proceeding downhill with the front wheels wedged engaged, giving you 4wheel ebs. Not as good as you might think, however, as you have NO ability to steer when all four wheels are locked together. Like i said, do a search, this has come up before.

EDIT: I tried searching for it, but the search is picking on me, not working. Anyways, i think the thread started as someone wanting a switch to engage their AWD when they want to. Anyways, it led to a dsicussion of fourwheel EBS

I would think with the help of an electrical schematic you could wire in a switch???

Any electrical wizards out there?

I'll check with my dealer...
