Opinions & Comparisons - Snow Plows
#1
Hey guys, I am looking at getting another plow. I currently have the glacier setup with the straight 48" and 60". What I am looking for is something a little better at plowing a long driveway (1/2mile.) The 60" works great as long as it doesnt get too deep. What happens with it is it starts pushing over top or doesnt go anywhere because of too much snow and it not being high enough. With speed sometimes I can get it to throw the snow.
What I am wondering is how much better the Razor two way plow or state plow is compared to that.
The razor plow seems really nice but im wondering if its as good or almost as good or not as good as the one way state plow.
Also, I see that the moose state plow is more aggressive then the polaris - 26" vs 19" on the high end. I wonder if it would bolt up to the glacier?

Maybe polaris's one-way glacier plow might help you, but just for down the driveway. The kind thats sloped so it throws the snow. Do you have the top deflector for your 60"? That definetly helps me throw the snow, i can get it right off of the driveway with a little speed. I don't know about the other brands, i only have a 60" glacier. Good luck with your research.

i looked at the Razor blade a few days ago. the Razor with upper rubber deflector MIGHT be the way to go. although i'm not really sure what the rubber would LOOK like mounted, maybe pretty sloppy looking.
from what i can remember, the Razor seems SIMILAR to that of the Moose County in height on the upper edge. only reason i suggest the Razor is because i know it will mate-up to your current frame. i don't know if the Moose blade will.
but deep down, the Moose County with upper rubber is the way to handle the BIG, deep stuff. i own the Glacier 60" and it's no comparrison to the 2 other Moose blades i used to own.(60" and County blades) Moose is a tall, heavy, powerful blade. nothing else even comes close imho.
cheers.

even the rubber angle is better. on the Moose it goes straight up. on the Glacier it points foward. that makes no sence when plowing because when you get a snow load it lifts the blade with the Glacier's cupping motion. in comparrison, the Moose stays in good contact with the ground and digs-in with the power like a proffesional full-size Fisher blade.

I took an pickup truck rubber bed mat I had in my shed and cut it to 6 inch strip by 60 inches long and bolted it to the top of my glacier 60" plow blade and it works great. the holes were already in the blade so I just had to puncture holes in the 1/4" rubber then use nuts and bolts to mate them together. it works great and keep the snow in front of the plow instead of going over. now I need to try to make some side deflectors.

Anyone have a picture of a one way moose? If it would mount up to a glacier? I'm wondering if it has similar connections on the bottom. If it didnt bolt up maybe use hardened bolts with washers maybe to make up the gap?
How about this, anyone have the razor plow and the polaris one way? Any advantages of each, disadvantages of each? Im wondering how much higher the one way is vs the razor. Also wondering how less effective it would be angled vs the one way.

with the 2 little nonsence storms we have had, i could have mounted 5 plastic shovels to the front of my quad and pushed it just fine! LOL
i can't wait to get a big storm. i really want to put this Glacier to the test in a REAL storm.
i think a plow's height, angle, and weight make it a great blade........not necessarily how easily it attaches. it's a plus, but i think the first 3 are more important.

PS, don't know about your mounting question jwyles. would be interresting to find out if it would work.

I have the new glacier razer plow setup but am still waiting for snow here in central Minnesota so no feedback yet. Will post when we get 1st snow worth plowing, only light dusting so far. However it does go on and off very nicely in a half a minute from the front of the machine.
Razer plow measures = middle 15'' high/left and right edge 21'' high/width 60'' and not as heavy gauge steel as the older 48'' cycle county comercial blade I have.
jinks
