Default 4 wheel drive

My "03" sp 600 is having problems with it's 4 wheel drive system. When I have the switch turned off the front wheels will slam and engage. Not good for the front diff. I changed the oil in the front diff but it hasn't helped. After calling around I was told that the armature plates in the front diff get magnitized. They will automatically engage wether you want it or not. I was also told that the 04 models had improved plates that have holes in them to release the magnitic build up. Can anyone give some insight to this. Right now I leave it in all 4's so I don't blow out the pig.

You are correct about the 04's having the front diff problem solved. It was a problem with the 03's and short of updating I'm not sure what you can do. You'll have to ask your dealer. I just don't know enough about it. good luck

Default 4 wheel drive problem...HELP

I have an 04.5 EFI 700 w/1200 mi. on it. bought in June of 04. I had AWD sometimes engage when the switch was off. The 04s are made with the new style armature plates. They have grooves cut into them to allow the hub fluid to leave from the roller bearings in the bearing cage. My problem was found to be a bad hub coil. The ohm resistance values thru the coil were beyond the servicable limits. With the coil in hand it retained magnatism without being hooked to an electrical source. Polaris replaced the coil under warranty claim. This seems to be fairly widespread. Call Polaris customer service and tell them what you are experiencing. If enough of us call maybe a recall or TSB will be brought about. Every forum I see where someone has complained of this very problem. Either armature plate magnatism or coil failure. This has been an ongoing problem since the central hub design came out in 02. Polaris had trouble with the original plastic roller cage and made a switch to aluminum. It didnt help so back to plastic they decided. Then the armature plate redesign. I like the AWD system and IMO is the way to go, but improvements are needed to keep it disengaged. Call Medina 1-763-417-8650 ask for Ryan or Jason in customer service. Have your vin# ready so the problem can be entered into their data base.
