Default rear brakes?

Went for a ride today and when I hit my rear brakes I got nothing! Had to mostly use my front brakes which worked great but once in a while my back brakes would work and then mostly they would not! Have any of you had this problem in the past and if so how did you fix it. Thanks.

Not sure if is the same as mine, but I just went through it with my 05 scrambler. The rear brakes just needed to be bled. I was told that excessive use of the rear brakes let air in, all I had to do was bleed it. Mine was actually due to power braking it I think, since I rarely use the rear brake alone.
In the scrambler there is a seperate brake reservoir under the seat. It is small so you need to fill it a few times to get all the air out, or you can just open the bleeder a little and slowly dump the fluid in until it drains all the air with gravity.

It's a pretty common thing for the rear brakes. When you use the brake on the handlebar, you're still using both brakes. You get used to it until you ride a manual, then you wonder why you won't slow down when you pull on the clutch.

Yeah, I nearly killed myself on a Honda 300EX. I was zipping along across a pretty rough pasture, pulled on the "brake" and OH BOY, I just went free wheeling! Scared me something fierce!

Make sure you bleed both hand brake and foot brake together. They are linked together and you will need to pump and hold both the hand lever and the foot lever when bleeding. I learned to hard way after a can of brake fluid.

If the 05 scrambler does have a rear brake like the preditor then you have only have to bleed the rear. There are two valves to bleed. One strictly the rear, and the other comes from the hand lever. Brake fluid fill is under the seat. Try bleeding just the rear one first.
