Default Glacier plow system install

Greetings,

Newbie here...been searching and learning about plow systems and think I know what I want (the Glacier set-up). I own a 2004 Sportsman 500 HO and I don't have a winch. I am NOT a handyman when it comes to working with tools. My main concern with this installation is the "Glacier Plow System Electric Lift Kit". I am especially not handy working with electronics. I plan on getting the....
1-Mount Plate....
2-Plow System Frame....
3-Electronic Lift kit....
4-Electronic Lift Mount Strap Kit....
5-60" Plow Blade....
6-Blade Liner....
7-Top Snow Deflector....and finally...
8-Remote Plow Blade Angle Control.

Am I forgetting anything?

Can someone who is not an auto mechanic install all these things or should I leave it to the pro's (the Polaris Dealer)??

Thanks much!

i'm in the same boat as you. electronics is not my thing. i rationalize it this way. between plow and electric lift you've just spent around $600-$700. a good dealer will charge you around $50 to install the stuff. so for an extra $50 i would let a qualified dealer do it.

are you ordering it online or from a dealer? i've found that the dealer is less expensive- list price on internet, dealer will discount.

good luck with whatever you chose. so far i'm enjoying my Glacier set-up in the 2 little storms we've had!

Just so you know, the lift is not electronic, its electric. Just a few wires to the battery for power, and some for a control on the handlebars. But if you don't feel comfortable doing it, the dealer will (should) do everything perfectly.

Oh and when you get everything working do mind telling us how well that remote blade angle adjust works? It seems like its a good idea, but with nothing there to move the blade (except driving agains snowbanks) it seems like it may not work so well.

I don't want to sound like some of those self proclaimed experts out there but IMO I would spend the extra money and get the winch at least a 2500lb. There is going to be a time when your going to need the winch to move the atv and the sportsmans are way too heavy to be lifting around for the average guy. If your stuck in somthing then you can forget about lifting it, you will almost always have a pile of dirt, snow, mud, branches, stump, logs anything that will prevent you from lifting the atv out. The sportsmans are already pre-wired for the winch.

Thats why the manufacturers almost always have a free winch program when you buy a utility atv
As far as the glacier plow, its a good choice very easy to connect and disconnect(gets easier after a few times too the pin starts to slide better after a bit of use)IMO get the 60 " blade , you can have the blade at 45 degrees and still plow the full width of the atv.

Hope this helps

I 2nd the Winch idea. Thw electric lift kit is around $150 and you can get a good 2500# ramsey for somewhat more and have it for more than one purpose. Besides, if you are having the plow installed, it is the about the same amount of labor to install the electric lift as to install the wiring for the winch.
I just went through this....and went with ATV3000 Ramsey with remote and installed it myself. The money I saved on labor paid for the difference in price from the lift to the winch.
I also agree that the 60" plow is the better choice. You dont want to be running your rear tires in unplowed snow when angling the 48". IMHO

hey nice choice on the glacier plow, I just wanted to let you know I bought my setup during fall from the dealer and got the glacier plow setup, 60"blade, 2500 lb. warn winch and all mounts and hardware installed including tax for $725.00 even. out the door.

another way to get a really nice plow would be to go to www.rcsoffroad.com - they have the complete Warn plow setup and winch packages for $690 shipped to your door and if you email their customer service and ask for a discount they will email you back with a $10 off discount code for a total of $680 and internet sales don't get charged tax.

The mounting plate on the bottom does reduce ground clearenct by about 1/2"
The plate does remove easily with 4 bolts (if my memory is correct). It is located between the tires so trees are no problem just rocks and stuff that goes between your tires. It also adds some resistance in deep snow. However the glacier plow works very slick and is worth it no matter what. It connects and disconnects so fast. In the spring just remove the mounting plate and you get the 1/2 inch back.

I recommend the 60", and a winch lift. I feel no sportsman should be sold without a winch
