a-arm removal
#1
Im trying to remove the a-arms on my trailblazer so i can get them powdercoated. In the manual it says to unscrew the bolt from the bottom of the strut until its flesh with the end of the stud then take a soft face hammer and tap it. Well i did that and the a-arm just doesnt want to budge off the stud. If anyone has any tips on this please let me know. Thanks

I know this doesn't sound good but a BFH is what you might need. If this is a new tool to you it isn't, it stands for BIG FU**ing Hammer, but i would soak it in wd-40 first and if theres no rubber around use a little heat then the BFH.

Well i tried the wd-40 but not the heat because there is rubber on the stud. lol i dont wanna try the BFH and end up bending the a-arm. Any other people that removed there a-arms and know an easier way let me know. Thanks

i used a pry bar to pop mine off,was pretty simple.when a friend of mine went to do his, they were stuck and wouldnt come off.he ended up removing the a-arm from the frame and resting it on the floor, then he used a piece of wood against the arm and hit it with a BFH,it poped right off..

Yeah you are going to have to hit is with something(rubber mallet, brass hammer, wood w/hammer).......they are just a little stuck on there......You did get the nut and the cotter pin out right??
Do not use heat........there is rubber like you said, and grease too..........

Support the strut with a jack stand and let the quad off the jack. This should level out the suspension some. Then get your jack just under the ATV for safety. With that castle nut loose use a large socket and extension and put them against the lower arm. Hit the arm down a few times and it should knock loose.

I dont understand what your trying to say "With that castle nut loose use a large socket and extension and put them against the lower arm." Its only a single a-arm set up not a dual so what do you mean by the lower a-arm?

You going to have to hit it with a hammer real good, use a block of wood and hit it. Theres no easy way to do it if its not willing to budge. You might dent it a little if you miss ,but if it needs to come off theres no other way.
