Default Polaris new oil filters

I changed my oil today on my 700 and took my new filter out of the box and it was a different # than the # on the box. The # on the box is 2540086 and thats the same # as the filter I got on the atv. So I called the dealer and asked if maybe the filter was boxed wrong or something. He told me all his filters had different #'s than on the box so he went and asked the mechanic and he said Polaris redesigned the filters for better flow. The new filter # is 2540122 and it is opened more on the inside for better flow.

You are better off using the Wix filter (USA) over the Polaris (Taiwan). It is the best filter on the market.

I was looking at the 2005 700efi polaris parts manual to check the part number for the oil filter and it says the 2540122 is for machines built before 10-8-04 and the 2540086 is for machines built after 10-8-04. Now I'll have to go home and check my machine before I go buy one. I have no idea what the difference would be, but I would hate to put the wrong one on and have trouble because of it.

I'll third that.

What is the WIX part number, though? I had a cross ref. at one time, but that was for my Scramblers. Can you post the P/N for the '02 700 WIX?

Thanks,
SnowDrift

I've never used a WIX filter but at their web site WIX filters they have a box you can type the manufacturer's part # and it will show you their part number. Or you can look it up by atv model here. It looks like your 02' 700 would be 51357.

SP800 parts manual listed 2540086 for the filter. The box I bought had a 2540006 filter inside it.

Some cross ref. #s for the wix is 51357 and 51356 and this cross ref for the AC Delco (another top quality filter) is pf1222 and pf2057.

The pf1222 is a Ford /Mazda 4 banger Probe application, couldn't find any of the pf1222 so I got the pf2057 and it seems to be the same other than a metal cap with a hole over the spring is missing .

Will this make a difference?

UPDATE: I would not use AC Delco PF 1222 it is a differant size alltogether.
The PF 2057 seems to be the same with the exception of the deletion of a metal cap over the spring on the inside (center) it's missing.
