Default 450R vs pred???

Hey guys. right now i have a 03 400EX which like but lookin for sumthin wit more power for more aggressive ridin. I was thinking oin choosing either the 450R or the 2005 standard predator. I do a lot of trail riding, sum tight woods and sum wide open trails, and there is a lot of mud. I know the top speeds on the two are pretty close and that dont matter but i was wondering what the other advantages each have over the other. any info would help a lot

They are both at the top of the game. I think the only thing better on the Predator is the steering adn suspension. But as for performance they both are great. I have not rode the new tld predator yet but I have driven the 450r and it is an awsome quad. I would put the edge to the Pred because of steering and susp.

The Predator you don't have to kick start, and the 05 Preddy has reverse. If I want to kick start a quad I would go back to riding Dirt Bikes. I sure the 450R is a good quad, don't get me wrong......but i'm not going to spend that kind of money on something I have to kick start. The Pred is a great all around quad, and it's hard to beat. Good luck with whatever you get.

Yea the pred does seem better. i dont want to have to kickstart a 450 all the time when im on the trails and the reverse gear would help out quite a bit. Does anyone know how both quads do in mud?? my 400 goes good with the bearclaws so a pred shouldnt be bad. what are the best mods for the 05 pred? i wanted to get the standard edition and get the resevoirs for the shocks and add other things for trails like hand gaurds, nerfs, bumpers and stuff.

im now startin to think that the troy lee edition pred isnt too bad for 05. i read a lot of things about the bad gearing on them but does anyone know what it like? the extra money isnt too bad kuz u get better shocks and looks pretty nice i was just wondering what the gearing was like. i heard it sucked from 4th to 5th but u cant always believe what u read.

I got a set of Kenda Klaws on the back, it goes well in the mud now. I think the best mod for the Pred is a Rath Header, and get a good slip on, send the carb off to Doug Nicholas and let him work his magic on it, and probly a CDI box from Doug also.

well thanks for the info guys but i made up my mind after i went to a dealer in barrhead and test drove both the quads. the 450r was a black one with the hrc kit, bumpers, nerfs, and yoshimura exhaust. It absolutly ripped, was very comfortable and was a breeze to kickstart. the pred was an 04 completly stock, it looks good from the front but from the side it kinda looked dumb kuz the front plastic ended halfway thru the gas tank and the front end looked like it dropped down to steep. when i got on it i was forced to sit forward more and when i took it for a ride i noticed that the clutch was too far away and the shifter was too far up, it didnt hook up very well. i decided to get the 450R wit the mods that the other one had instead of the pred.

I like the predator, not just cause it's a polaris but cause it has awesome power and now has a reverse and electric start. the honda only has kick start and just seems like alot of cash for a sport quad.

I think you will like your 450, They run awsome, are a lil high geared taking off but u can get over that when you get used to it, they handle good and are decent in the mud. If you ride any MX tracks i think u will absolutely love it. We just got back from an indoor track, pretty tight track and one of the 450's i ride with was clearing 65 foot no problem and never left 1st gear so all around i think they are great for sport riding or just cruising along a trail.
