Now I am so confused about how fast the SP800 is. I know that it has a lot of low end torque, but how does it compare in speed to a KQ?

Top end they are very close. The 800 gets the KQ off the start, but once going there stay very close. I have not tried it again since I put a new spring in, but from seat of my pants, the 800 will be quicker.

The 800 was faster than the KQ in the magazine drags and was just a tick slower than the BF, and thats at 170 lbs heavier!
The 800 was actually the fastest of all to 20mph.

Spyder, i think there's a limit on HP (50) not cc's.

as a current owner of a 700EFI and a prev owner of a 500, i'd have to say for me the 700EFI has WAY more power than most people need.

the 800 has really cool custom wheels and REALLY cool dual exhaust.

my advice is to ride both, compare price, then decide!

Spyder6 is correct. There is a limit on engine size. 800cc is the largest they can get to. If it gets bigger then that it is classified as an ORV, or Off Road Vehicle. I don't think there is a limit on horsepower. I have never heard that, but I could be wrong. Someone needs to develop a big bore kit that pumps the SP up to 800cc instead of being at 760cc's.

That might be the reason Polaris went with 760 cc if there is a 800cc limit. This gives them some room to come out with another model later like a 800HO and be able to bump the cc and yet stay under the limit.

When you do the formula for the 800 (80mmx76mm) it actually come to 764cc. So just a 1mm bore would jump the 764cc to a 783cc, and a 2mm bore would jump it to a 803cc

You guys could be right, not sure. I also heard of a weight classification for some states and trail systems which would put an ATV in another classification such as ORV.

GE4x4 and T-Mud,
Isn't the 800 based on a Liberty sled motor hence the 760cc.
Also couldn't they increase the stroke to bring up the displacement?

It's actually based off the Frontier touring sled. It a 784cc with a 80x78 bore and stroke. So the Frontier has a 2mm more stroke, so thus could be added to the SP800 and bumped up to a 784cc.
