Default simple clutching question on scrammy

ok, i do NOT want to raise the engagement on my scrambler. in reality, i want to lower my engagement. i do a lot of slow technical riding at speeds of 3-5mph, so a higher engagement just screws me over. anyone here know how i can lower my engagement from the stock? i want it so i just breath on the throttle and its rolling

Default simple clutching question on scrammy

check out this site www.hpd-inc.com they have clutch springs, contact your local polaris and find out what the spring rate #'s are then compare them to the one they have , maybe you will find one with less, you may also want to change your clutch weights, you might want to call rick ritter of rotter cycle , he helped me find the right parts to make my bike do exactly they way i ride , man its great now from the stock clutching. good luck.

Default simple clutching question on scrammy

pm brambles he got one of daltons springs with low engagement ask him what he thinks of it here is rick ritters spring chart to compare

I tested several manufacturers primary springs on a spring scale today . I had a total of 12 springs ,they were all brand new .

My readings may vary from the manufacturers , but the whole point of this is to show springs relations to each other . My scale is repeatable to a variance of about 3 pounds , I have checked this by retesting the same spring several times . I do find springs (of the same color code) can vary often by more than that.

I always thought an EPI red and a polaris white were identical . The two springs appear to be the same , and maybe they are , I may have gotten a wimpy white spring . I tested several EPI reds and they all tested close together , the polaris white is just a little lower . I have another new white spring coming to test tommorow .

My scale is not a high quality certified scale , I am using a common bathroom scale in my press with a tool I made to hold the spring and allow me to compress it while I read the calibrations on the side .
The poundage may be off but the tests are repeatable with in the variances I have previously mentioned .

I put this list together so at least we can all see how these things measure on the same day , on the same tester .
I hope this helps you all in tuning your clutches .

Rick usually doesnt have time to check his emails. You are better off calling him. He answers the phone himself and will set you up with exactly what you need. Great guy.

You will have to move more than a gram or two of weight to see any engagement change to speak of. The spring is usually the big thing to determine engagement changes. You could put a lot of weight in with a weak spring, but then your bike will be sluggish due to the clutch trying to shift too fast.

You can call Aaen and talk to Olav. They can custom grind you a set of weights that have more weight on the tip and can help create a lower engagement. That along with a different spring could accomplish what you want.
