Default You have to see this.

Almost 8 Hp gain. What do you think? I know it's on a Raptor, but the Sportsman HP is in the 30's at the wheels too.
Has anyone tried this.

I had a K&N on my 97 and 2001 Sportsman 500's. I don't know what the claimed HP improvement was supposed to be but I can tell you it didn't feel anywhere close to 9 HP more. I would guess maybe 2 or 3. Keep in mind that everything else was stock.

With the K&N Power Lid, K&N filter and appropriate jetting, I could see a little more "giddy up" but I don't know about 8 HP, unless the Raptor's stock air box is that restrictive. That sounds a bit exaggerated to me.

8 hp is almost a 30% INCREASE. i think if this were true the manufactures would be taking advantage of this quick boost to boost sales? no?

The claim is somewhat exaggerated, but the raptor is extremeley restrictive from the factory. I wouldnt guess more than a 1-2 hp gain on a sp ute.

even if it did add a few extra ponies it doesn't justify spending almost $50 on an air filter. I would rather spend the money on an exhaust or clutch setup.

For a utility quad thats a much better "bang for the buck" idea. For a sport quad like the raptor a proper airbox and filter setup will add a lot of power. I have 2 setups, one w/ airbox bottom and one w/o any airbox. I have about 200 bucks into them alone.

I think its worth it considering you'll break even in a couple years by just saving buying a few paper non cleanable air filters a year. I have one for each of my vehicles (2 quads, 2 autos).

With proper jetting it should help like with the dyno jet kits or the K&N kit W/jets.

I would think the filter alone is only worth about 1 hp on 4 strokes.
