Default Decompression lever?..possibly built in on 97 scrammy? Just about pulled my arms out of the sockets from the compression

Is there anything in the pull start/recoil for decompression. Any tricks to make it easier to pull start? The battery crapped out and I tried to use the pull start and just about ripped my arms from my shoulders and it felt like I broke my fingers. Holy ***** is there some compression in there. If not, maybe its a funny story?

I thought all 500 motors have the ball bearing in the camshaft that at low or cranking rpm the ball lifts the exhaust valve off its seat to act as a decompression device. At higher rpm it all goes back to normal.
