Default EFI durability

Hi

I own a 2003 SP 500HO with no mods, and I have been wondering if owners of the new EFI models are happy with the durability of there quads. I may consider getting a 500 EFI in the future. The cost of fixing the fuel injection system makes me a little nervous. I have found the SP 500HO to be very durable so far except for a faulty strut that broke quickly and was replaced under warrenty. I ride in lots of water and mud.

What are your experiences with the new EFIs?

Hey Otta

Great to see another Canuck on the forum!

I bought a 2004 EFI back in fall, and it's been great. Recently, I have had a problem with my Fuel pump (warranty job)... But outside of that, the EFI is solid.
The throttle response is awesome and the cold starts are even better. I had a carb'd scrambler before this, and with all the merits of the EFI on my new machine, I am happy with the little extra $ I paid for it.

I also had a fuel pump go bad on my 2004 700EFI after only 11 miles on the odo. it was fixed and it's been ok since but overall I am completely satisfied with my EFI and am very glad I went with it instead of the carb model. no choke to deal with, no warm up periods, no jet changes required etc. just hit the key and go. definitely worth the extra $300

Has anyone been through so serious mud and water with their EFI yet?

Yes, I have had it completely submerged a few times. I was very concerned about the electrical components but they must be sealed well.....

Hey Otta

Have a look at some pics I just posted.. Although there isn't a picture of my machine going through the water (I was behind the Camera). We all went in the same spot.

I just posted the pic's in my gallery, so the moderators have to approve them, but it should take long.

Snaggle
The pic of the quads up the tree looks like me one time. I was on my land riding when a tree limb snagged my throttle cable and jerked it and it went full throttle and strait up a tree. I will say that was 1 he!! of a ride.

I've got the '05 700 EFI and its the best machine I've owned so far. I've got about 600 miles on it so far and has been perfect. Starting in any weather without a choke and within a few cranks every time is awesome....can't ask for more....

I also ride from about 4500 - 13000 feet in altitude and runs great at all ranges, can't even tell you are going up or down....just adjusts to it...
