Buying a Scrambler
One of my friends has a 1997 scrambler 500 he wants 2000 for it. He has the hotseast speed kit, and a team seconday clutch. Also has holeshot tires. The quad runs awsome and starts up very easily. After riding this quad i absolutely loved it. Although i did get a little muddier and had a harder time getting through the holes than w/ my prarie. My question is is the quad worth the money?

If it's in good shape then $2000 doesn't sound bad. The '97 doesn't have the H.O. motor and I'm not sure if it has concentric drive. Does it have shaft drive up front? Some of the older models have chain drive front and rear and those could be a maintenance nightmare. I personally would not get it if it has chain drive up front. No thanks.
Are you going to keep the Praire?

what year did they start w/ the h.o. motor?? I always thought that all scramblers were h.o. And yes i am keeping the praire. I'm not sure about the chain drive in the front. All i know is the only problems that he has ever had have been in the clutch, and all those parts are brand new.

PrarieScrammer,
Around here, (Idaho/WY/Utah) $2000 for a 1997 Scrambler is a great price. I have done a lot of searching, and found prices from $2300 -$3400. For the same Scrambler. My suggestion is call a dealership and ask what they will give you for trade in on it, that will give you a good idea what you could get out of it if you needed to. Also search the local classifieds in your area for similar ATVs to see if they sold for the same price. my guess is you won't find any that cheap. But that is just what i have found out here.
Good luck!

1998 was the first year for the H.O. motor. They put the H.O. motor in the '98 to keep up with the 400 2 stroke Scrambler as well as boost sales.
Are you talking about the HPD lower steer post bushing I have in my profile? That is just a heavier duty bushing to replace the stocker (crap). It doesn't effect the h-bar height at all.
