Default Possible Sportsman Purchase??

I like most of what I'm reading about the 700 Twin EFI, but I have run across some comments about a "clunking transmission sound" that is harmless, but not fixable. How many of you with this machine have noticed this problem? I have narrowed my decision between the Sportsman and the King Quad. Problem is the KQ is having more serious transmission problems at the moment.
Thanks,
Eric

I have an 03 700 with the famous cluck it has done it from day one. I have learned to live with it and nothing has gone wrong with the transmission. The 700's are a great ATV.

I noticed the clunking immediately. If I recall correctly it only did it going down hill. I've only got 55 miles on mine and haven't been on any hills since last Oct. Considering how nice everything else is I'm willing to overlook the clunking issue. I have to tell you that today I had mine out around the house and man was it fun to throw sideways and take off from small jumps. It lands very smooth. The suspension is incrediable. I can't believe the big overall difference between this and my 2004.5 500 SP. What a nice ride this 700 is.

I have read over and over that same question . Today i was riding and i guess im so use to that little clunk that i never think about any more , only when i first purchased and asked what it was. But i got thinking about it and slowed up than speeded up and kept making it do it . Finally i just laughed and said wow the way this thing rides and the power who cares about the small clunk trust me you will forget about it . I think people get hung up on it because they think something will break. 3 years on mine and never had a problem.

That's the first thing I asked the dealer about when I test rode it he said it was normal so I called a few others to be sure (before forum days).
I don't even notice it most the time now, and she rides like a dream, great machine, go for it.
The sportsman has SO MANY more nice features than the KQ. Its no contest to me unless you are strictly looking for a SPORT ride only.

Only way I'd get rid of mine would be for the EFI model or the 800!

jimmypsp700's quad clunks so bad I can't hear myself talk. Just kidding. I rode Jim's 700 and I didn't hear any clunking. My prairie 650 used to clunk a lot on downhills. It's normal and no big deal.

If you want efi and polaris get the 700. If you want efi and like the feel of the kq better then get that one. They are both awesome machines.
