Default Electrical Question

I have a 2005 Sportsman 400 with 25 hours and 215 miles or so on it. Recently when your riding it if you switch the lights onto the low beam all electricity is lost and the 4wheeler dies. this only happens every now and then, and it seems like if i move the Red Engine on/off switch back and forth then the lights will work again. Possible that there is just a short in the wires in the switch, or any ideas on where to look at to cure the problem?? any help would be greatly appreciated.
