I'm not following exactly. Are you saying that the left and right axles have to be "clocked" identically with respect to eachother on the spline where I reinstalled them at the tranny? I did have both out, and replaced u joints in both axles. If that's what you're saying then I had no idea that this would matter, and I"m sure that would be the problem. I can't think anywhere else that I could misalign anything.

yeah, the yokes must be lined up with each other on both sides. also, if you had the splined sections apart on each axle, they need to be aligned at the yokes too.

Jeffro... You're a genious!

I haven't fixed it yet, so I don't know for sure, but the one axle is 10* off from the other. In addition, the axle on the side that I feel vibrations is clocked an additional 10* from the inner. I didn't (intentionally) move the spline because I never took the boot off. It was either like that already, or I accidently allowed it to flex too far out and spun it. I could totally see that being a vibration.

Thanks! I have work to do now

that'll do it! we had one that came like this right out of the crate back in 96. talk about a pain to find the first time
realign all the yokes and should be ok. hey, did you figure out the speedo problem? just read your post few mins ago. probably the wheel sensor located on the right front caliper bracket.

I found a pipe clamp holding the boot on too... think this could make some vibrations?

Haven't figured out the speedo problem yet. We're still trying to ge a manual for that one. If that sensor is cheap, we'll just order one and replace it.

I got the axle shafts lined up and it seems a little better, but not fixed.

I found that there is a lot of play in the front steering linkage, and I don't know what the toe is set at. I'm going to replace the joints on the steering linkage and set the toe, and see what that does.

get the steering tightened back up and set the toe to 1/4" out in front. just thought of it this morning, your bike has a cable drive speedo. follow the cable back along the left side of the trans. there is a place it hooks up. take it apart there and see if the cable is free. then take the little housing off, inside you'll find a smal piece of cable, its called a key, it may be broke. this is common on some of these bikes.

I think your reference to the speedo cable is for my speedo problem. The speedo problem is on my buddy's 2001 which has the electronic speedo.

I did get the front end tightened up and it does seem to be a little better again, but not much. Now the wobble starts around 33 or so and isn't quite as bad, but still not very healty for the machine I'm sure.

I set the toe at 1/8th inch out measuring where the tread on the side of the tire is. Do you think making it 1/4" on each side would make that much of a difference?

I stopped by the dealer today and asked them what they thought. Two different guys told me that it might just be that these tires are too big and agressive to run w/o head shake. I'm going to try putting on the old 25" tires and see if that fixes the problem. I might have time to do that later today.
