Default Steering post noise

Went riding today in the snow since it still doesn't want to go away. Anyway I got hung up on the skid frame with the wheels spinning away in the air and out of natural instinct I cranked on the handlebars to try and turn the front tires a bit to try and bite and it made an awfull snapping sound. Should I be worried? I checked everything over and all seems fine but I remember seeing a picture of a Sportsman in an ATV magazine with the handlebars and pod snapped off when a guy was doing the same thing in the mud. I'm thinking it was just the bars moving a bit in the clamps? Anyone ever done this?

If you go to Partsland, and look at the diagram, you'll see a plastic clamp near the top of the post. That's where you'll want to spray. The older models had a zerk fitting there to grease them. They also had one on the bottom at the bushing. You may want to check your CV joints too. Seems like it would affect that more than the steering stem.
