98 SC500 chain adjust?
#1
Ok, Im new at this and I am having a little trouble adjusting the chain on my 98 Scrambler 500. It has the coencentric drive on it, but like i said im new at this stuff. If someone can please give me MORE DETAILED directions than the manal. It says to insert a pin in the sprocket hub and axel housing, but when i put it in there and rock it back and forth, nothing happens, and if some thing does, it loosens whe i tighten the eccentric bolts. Am i putting it in the riight place ? i dont know. Please describe the directions better then the manual.

The chain tightening procedure is fairly easy once you get the hang of it. Does your model have the rear mounted brake caliber? If yes, you need to loosen the bottom mounting bolts on this. Second, loosen the rear axle housing bolts (can't remember proper name). Make sure they are pretty loose. Next, stick a pin or screwdriver through the sprocket hole and rotate the wheels until the pin will go into the axle bearing housing. It is easiest to put the machine on a jack in order to spin the rear wheels. If you put the pin or screwdriver into a hole and spin it all the way around and it doesn't go into the axle housing, its the wrong hole. It should go into the axle housing about an inch. Once the pin is in the axle housing, roll the vehicle forward. This will rotate the axle housing within the swingarm frame and tighten the chain. Once the chain is tight, retighten everything and torque the rear bolts to 45 pounds. Hope this helps.
