Default 02 500 Scram: stock hp? +speedo question

Just wondering what the power numbers were for a 02 500 4x4 scrambler....also how hard is it to install a speedometer on this model? Has anyone installed any other instrumentation, such as temp gauge or anything? I feel lost without any type of gauge or even idiot light.

Stock hp is 39 at the crank. I have installed a Trailtech speedo, as well as Sunpro gauges (engine temp, oil pressure, and voltmeter). You can seem them in my pics.

BTW, welcome to the forums

the trail tech is a great little instrument to have. it is really pretty accurate.

i also have a sunpro temp guage installed.

all were really simple to install with regular tools and a little bit of ingenuity.

good luck!

the trail tech is cheap, and very accurate. Mine is exactly on target. It only takes about 15 minutes to install. The hardest part is calibration. Also, the Trail Tech customer service is outstanding.

Thanks guys, BigBad, what did you plumb your temp gauge into? Thats one i'd definetly like to have. Rpm would be cool but I have no idea how that would work. And as far as the Trailtech, it looks like it uses its own sensor at the rotor? Also, how about a fuel gauge? Not a real priority, but would be nice. How many miles do you guys seem to get outta a tank?

i plumbed my sunpro temp guage into the port on the side of the head where the stock temp sensor is.

as far as mileage, i was really impressed. the most i have ridden at one time is 46 miles..... and i was really low in the tank.... but hadnt switched to reserve yet....

46 MILES! Holy crap thats alot more than I thought. Cool, I've done some searching and noticed that people are using the port on the cylinder head. I was thinking about using the digital gauge that Summit has in their catalog as it would be easier to read at a glance. But in the direct sun it might be harder, however my dad's 400 Prairie has a digital MPH gauge and its always easy to read.

Mine goes in the where the temp sensor use to be in the side of the head. As far as a tach goes. A Tiny Tach is around $50 and hooks to your spark plug wire. Itis digital so it does have that delay. Rick Ritter at rittercycle.com carries a Westach analoge tach for hte scrambler. I think they run about $90. The Trailtech does use its own sensor. You attach a hall affect sensor to the strut housing and attach a magnet to the rotor. Then you just have to program the tire size into the trailtech. You can get a mechanical fuel gauge that replaces the gas cap from your dealer. They are only like $17. They work OK, but arent the most accurate. Better than nothing though. I usually average between 35-55 miles to a tank, depending on how often I am on the throttle
