Default a few older scrambler questions...

i am thinking of getting a scrambler, probably from the 97-2000 range. i was wondering...

are there any major problems that these models had. also, do they handle as well as the newer ones and excellerate and top out as the newer ones. did the ones forn the late 90's have the auto and true 4x4 on demand? what about did they top out at? and, were they fuel injected also, or did that come later? just wondering.

Are you looking for a 400 2stroke or a 500 4stroke?Best bet is for a 2000 - up they had some major upgrades.

the 500 was from 97 and up. the 97 had the least power, imo try to find 2000 and up, like FT said. none of the scrammys are injected - yet. as for problems, not much different than any other quad, they are always things to replace when worn. the 500 engine is probably the best engine Ppolaris has built, and there are plaenty of mods available. Good Luck hunting

I have a 2000 scrambler 500 4x4. One problem i have is that the chain keeps breaking. And this last time when it broke it slapped the tranny and cracked the entire side. I probably was riding it too hard but i have heard that this is one of the problems these ATVs have.

Get the HO model with the long travel piggy back suspention and concentric drive. I think models 2000-2003.
Also get a chain tentioner from HPD/RcR.

I was reading a review, the 2000. It mentioned the 97 was weak in power, so in 98 they went with the HO Engine. It was tweaked over the 97 500 and ran even times with the 400 2 stroke. I have a 98 2 stroke. I bought it last year. I haven't noticed any major problems with it. It has the push button AWD and the fronts don't engage unless you lose traction on the rear. If you are in reverse you have to use the overide button to get the fronts to pull.

I also have a 95 2 stroke sportsman. I like my scrammy much better.

Here is the 2000 review I mentioned.
