500 scrammy won't start
#1
I put it in a ditch yesterday, and it ran fine even though at a pretty steep angle. Once it was pulled out, it wouldnt run at all. The starter is turning it over, btu it just wont fire. It can't be a fouled plug because i changed it today. I put the new plug in, and tried to crank it, then took the plug out. I couldnt smell any gas on the plug, so im guessing theres some kind of blockage somewhere in between the line going from the gas tank to where the carbureter fits onto the cylinder. I at least know theres no gas getting into the cylinder. I can take the plug out and drop a little bit of gas down the hole, and then replace the plug, and it will run for a second, but then it stops. Any ideas on how to get it running?

Sounds like youshoock some dirt loose in your tank and either plugged the fuel filter of stopped up the jets in your carb

Check the filter first then see if that is the problem if it wasnt take the carb off ,take it apart and clean it out.

ok, i took the filter off - still wont start. Upon further examination of the fuel lines, I see that the gas tank one feeds into some type of metal bracket (what is this?) and then 2 lines come out of that and connect to different parts of the carburetor. The line closest to the 4 wheeler has gas in it but the outer one doesnt. is this normal? should i start by tinkering with these lines or move right on to the carburetor?

Check for fuel at the carb, Pull the line with fuel in it and see if fuel runs out with the petcock on res. The other line may be a vacumm source to operate the petcock, so you may have to crank the engine to get fuel to run. There is a drain screw on the bottom of the carb bowl. See if there is fuel there, if there is then your main jet is pluged.
