what engine oil for 04 SP500?
Can you guys tell me if I can run Mobil 1 0w-40 in my 04 Sportsman 500? I have a few vehicles that ask for the 0w-40 synthetic and it would be easier to just get the Mobil instead of running to two or three different dealers (none of which are in the back yard). If it will hurt something, I will go get the Polaris oil. Just a thought, thanks,

I use AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Motor Oil SAE 0W-40 and I was amazed as how much smoother my 700 Sportsman idles. I have to say it helps throttle response and even top end but it is still climbing past 70 when I run out of room and have to back off! haha
On a side note.. What oil filter do You use?
Don't go to Polaris and get a oil filter for $11.99!
I did some research and the Polaris Filter # 2540006 cross references too....
Motorcraft # FL822 (avg. $4.99)
AC Delco # PF2057
Wix # 51356
Purolator # PL14610 or PL14620 (I found on sale at Meijers for $3.99 ---- I bought 10 )
Also did You know that Purolator makes Motorcraft filters for Ford! And that in an Independant Study, Motorcraft and Purolator tied and was a close second to Wix and Hastings (which tied for first but by very narrow margins) Fram was listed last and was found to be very poor in quality as the card board and glue inside the filter can fall apart and get into the engine. The Testors even had a motorcylce engine fail during testing as a result of a Fram filter.
Hope this helps.

what engine oil for 04 SP500?
Just got in from changing my oil and it looks like the Polaris filter is the same as the Wix I replaced it with, what a lousy spot on the 600, I can see how the type with a nut for a socket would be handy. It's my third oil change and first time with the Amsoil 0w-40, maybe I will be hitting 70 mph myself! Still don't know who makes the oil for Polaris, it's not Amsoil, they smell different and are different collors. Check this out.

I forgot Sequence IIIF. They are the industry standards for getting API approval for Engine oils sold in this country. If you look on the oil container you will see an SF or Sg rating, this is a result of passing these tests. All engine oils today pass those tests. If you are going to write AMSOIL ask if the ever ran those tests at triple lengh times and if so how did their product do.
