2 hours and the engine need rebuilt
#1
Can I get some opinions on what you guys think I should do? I bought a new Scrambler 2 months ago and only rode it one time. At the end of that day I flipped it over, bent the handle bars, and scratched the plastic up pretty good. It sat in my garage until Monday when I finally got my handlebars. I put everything back together and 5 minutes later the engine starts knocking. At the most, it has a total of 2 hours on the engine. So I took it to my dealer, who calls me back today saying that the oil pump doesn't work, and has never worked. Basically telling me they are going to rebuild the entire engine. He said he asked Polaris for a new "one", but Polaris said to take the engine apart and fix it. I'm not sure what he meant by "one", but I'm guessing a new engine, not a new 4 wheeler.
I think it would be a hard fight to get a new 4 wheeler, especially with the damage from the wreck. Should I fight to get a new engine? Would it be a better option to try to get Polaris to give me a free 2 year warranty? I just bought a complete HPD system from RcR. If they give me an extended warranty, do you think the HPD system will void it?
I'm lost on what to do. All I know is I'm not happy I just spent $6000 on a 4 wheeler with a rebuilt engine. A rebuilt engine worries me. What do you guys think?
Thanks for your help,
Brad

That atv should have been inspected before being put into a crate and even during setup. I would demand either a new engine or a new atv. point blank. Don't take that sh-t from the dealer, take it to polaris customer service. 2months old and only 2 hours on it.

If the dealer has found that the pump was not working, that is the failure, no problem, the engine should be replace completly. Ur dealer my think that there is a lot more miles on the at in the 2 months that uve had it by the damage to it. Do they know that it has hardly a ride on it. If they know all this, they need to push as polaris to stand behind their customer for buying their product and come good for it. The daler can do moer than check a claim, they have more pull than they let on. I work for a dealer, and know how it works, ur dealer may be mislead on the care of the quad by the bit of damage to it, explain urself and they should help.

The dealer actually seems to be on my side. They told Polaris that it had less than 2 hours, I don't think they even told them about the damage. Would the dealer make more money (more billable hours) by rebuilding the engine instead of replacing it? Polaris customer service was closed by the time I got the news on the engine. I think I'm going to push for a new engine, and as a last resort take an extended warranty.

Your telling us you put 2 hours on your quad and the dealer is telling you that the oil pump never has worked?????? Hu????? Something is not adding up. No way in heeeeell is a motor going to run for 2 hours without oil protecting it's parts.
Someone is going to be waaaaaay wrong.

If a pump fails, then every single spot that is supposed to get lubed is not getting oil properly. That is just about all of the motor. I wouldnt settle for anything less than a new motor.
