mudrunners rubbing on fenders

I've got a Sportsman HO with 26" Mudrunners on it. Went riding for the first time on it this past weekend. The front tires are rubbing on the fenders when I hit any kind of bump or hole. The bigger the hole, the harder it rubs. Does anyone know what I need to do to correct this problem??? I'm thinking of a lift kit, but I know nothing about these kits. Any help would be much appreciated.

have your dealer order u a set of the heavy duty springs for the frount struts. that should do the trick

Heavy duty springs will not help. I have already tried the #100 springs. I am going to the dealer now to discuss options.

I really noticed a performance loss after the Mudrunners where installed. The ride quality also suffered. I have aired mine down to 4 PSI at 5 PSI it was like riding on cement doughnuts.

The H.O is way faster with the stock tires.

I will post a reply after talking to my dealer.

aluniumn rims would help offset the increased weight of the mudrunners over the stock tires.

Order a set of Progressive front springs, they're adjustable and give you somewhat a lift. Try to stay clear of the lifts and if that is what you want to go past an inch an halve.

I just removed my 26" mudrunners from my Xplorer. They rubbed all the time any time I hit a bump, rock or whoop. I first installed the 15$ rubber spacers in the front springs and it did not help enough. I did notice a difference when I shaved down the plastic under the front fenders, shaved about 5/8 inch off. The ride was still awefull so I tried the sriffer springs. Not bad, but the ride was bouncier and the stiffer springs are in fact shorter than the stock springs.

After 3 months of hearing my wife fuss about not being able to have a fun and fast rides because of not-so-great handling at higher speeds I took em' off. I replaced them with 25" Bearclaws. It literally made a hell of a difference! They weigh in at 10 lbs lighter per tire. If I remember right, rear weighs in at 47 lbs each and fronts at 36 lbs each!!! They just fell into every hole they could find. Performance is back now, and I lost no traction.Thse puppies just coast through the mud and are great on hardpacked. For a 1/2 inch loss in clearance...it was worth it for me.

Don't get me wrong, the Mudrunners are great in mud and do steer great. Slow riding is fun also. But they rub the fenders and the ride really suffers at 35 mph and above...

Try lighter rims, shave the plastic and add new/smaller screw clamps between plastics and try the 15$ rubber spacers.

Xplor,
you must ride like an animal.I have the rubber spacers on my 00 Xplorer to,they did help alot,but I to have an occasional rub on a hard bump.Im thinking of adding a few spacers to the springs and see what happens,if not,I'll go with the stiffer springs.===Bill

It isn't just me. At first I though so, until my wife started to bounce around on the quad and harass me about... "those darn huge tires of yours". (her words) Maybe it's because my springs were 2 years old.

Upon adding spacers, shaving plastic, then eventually changing to stiffer springs they did rub a lot less. But the ride still wasn't fun on long hard-packed or in the whoops.

Just one suggestion: If you get the stiffer front springs, wait before doing the back one. My Xplorer just bounces back and forth beacause of the stiffer spring in the rear.

It's funny that for every positive aspect a mod adds, it hinders the ride in another. Thats the way it is I guess... Not sure what impact adding more than one spacer per spring would have. Harder hits due to less spring dampening?

i thought that the mudrunners were sposta be much better than the stock tires. i was thinking about upgrading to them myself. i thought they were sposta ride smooth because of the riding pad design. does the tire pressure affect the ride?
should i get 25" tires instead? would they do everything the 26" would?

I gotta admit ledebuhr1, that I was loosing sleep over getting my 26" mudrunners last year. I had waited over two years for "bigfoot" tires. For mudding or snow riding they are amazing. It is all a matter of personal preference. Maybe I over-estimated the performance factor of bigger tires.

I ride more on hard-packed trails at speeds of 25mph and up. Not a ton of mudding.(10%) For my needs the 25" tires are better. More wheelspin, acceleration, speed, zippiness, etc. That is what pleases me. Plus, for the added 1/2 inch clearance that 26" tires gave me, it was not worth the loss in power and performance. The difference on my quad is like night and day!

Basically, 4 months later and 1200$ poorer, I found what I like...25" agressive tread Bearclaws!
