Scrambler 500- what are the wires in the throttle for?
Hello,
I have a 2002 Scrambler 500 that runs perfectly, but won't idle. It idles fine until you let the throttle go back against the stop, then dies. I disassembled the throttle, and found that it will idle perfectly until the contacts inside the throttle assembly close. How is this system supposed to function?
Thanks,
Lorrinl

They are for the ETC and it shuts off when it senses the throttle is hung open. You need to adjust the throttle cable to have a lillte slack in it. Just a little way down the throttle cable the will be a boot open it up and adjust the cable there.

If you remove your front plastic, make sure you look to see how the cable is ran, If not it may result in the same problem you are having. The first time I put my front back on, it would rev up when you turned to the right and die if you turn to the left. I simply made sure it was all clear and then adjusted the idle using the adjustment just down from the grip like SPORTSMAN70003 posted.

Hey leelorr,
I had the same problem. SPORTSMAN70003 and jimk72 are correct. The ETC is a safety feature on the polaris bikes. If the throttle cable breaks then the contacts will touch and that kills the spark going to the plug. Take the cover off the throttle assembly and then follow the cable from the housing. About 4 inches down you will find the ruber boot. Pull that back and start adjusting it while watching the 2 metal contacts. Once they are not touching anymore then pump the throttle a couple times to make sure they don't touch. Button it up and away you go.
