help with a 02 tb please!!!!

still no luck, the machine idles great, it is a 2 stroke, starting in neutral doesn't help, the choke has no adjustment I just pulled the spring longer so it would put more pressure on the plunger pushing on the seat, the battery I swapped with my scrammy still would not start when warm, but will start with the pull start if I don't crank on it long, I will get to trying the petcock, the compression is 100#psi warm
using the pull start. thanx again all!!

I am the original owner, after it was broke in at about 20hrs. I check the compression for future ref.
it checked 110psi using the pull start, so I am down 10psi now. The thing of it is, if I wait a few mins.
after shutting it off it will start good, but if I wait 10 to 30 mins. it does not want to start. if I don't
try the electric start and goto the pull start It will start. when I checked compression it would goto
80psi with the electric start, 100psi with the pull start, I don't know if it was like that when I checked
comp. at 20hrs. I just used the pull start then. maybe the electric start lags after it is warm, but it
seems ok to me. maybe it is that the compression is a little low, it sure seems to have the power
& top speed it always has. any more ideas or comments anyone?

I hate getting my butt kicked, I also don't like being hands on. What is the standard plug a br9es or something, in ngk the lower the # the hotter the plug. By the way have you read the plug yet? you could possibly go to the br8es for testing, what other circumstances can you recall that led up to this problem? Did it get hot, did it get some bad fuel, pre detonation? pinging? You very well could be looking at atop end rebuild!

Hey dirtsnow. It almost sounds as if the starter is not cranking fast enough after it is warm. Looking at the ignition circuit, it appears that the CDI unit depends on current from the charging coils (instead of battery current) to create a spark. Seems to me that if the engine cranks slowly, it will not get enough power to run the cdi. You used the battery off the Scrammy to test the TB battery? If those are original batteries, maybe your batteries are getting weak. One explaination of why the cdi might work cold, but not hot might be that electronics becomes more finicky as it warms up.
I hope this gives you some more ideas

OK, plugs are br8es it came new with them, plug is light tan, never hot, several tanks of gas have been
used, no pinging or knocking, with the cdi coming off the charging coils crank speed will have to good
my batteries are 3 to 3 1/2 years old & charged up, I will try another test battery, I am questioning
the starter, I know that they are suspect to water because of the location on the bottom of the motor,
last year was wet and the bike seen some water more than a few times, no major subbing, but there
were some wet, muddy rides with follow up power washing. The bike runs great & will start with the
pull start when warm so the compression can't be that bad. the top end work maybe coming some day, but I will have to get the starter checked out most likely, or keep pulling starting it for my wife it is her
bike, she came home with two new ORV stickers so she must be reddy to ride!!! thanx all !

There you have it , the reason I asked that question earlier is I had 425 magnum and that starter did the same thing. I agree pull starting is a pain, and replacing the starter is never easy. I always see starters on ebay. You're work and replies really helped. Let us know what you find. drlang

well, I just wanted to get back with the up date for all who helped me, I rechecked my compression
after the motor was good & warm after a ride & this time it was down to 90psi, so I knew I had to
do a top end job before doing anything with the starter, I went with a bore job .5mm over wiesco piston, new top pin bearing, & a .020th head mill job & guess what it starts great now!!!! thanx
all for the help!!
