On my 96 xplorer when you push awd button the light won't come on and 4x4 won't engage unless you hold transmission shift lever forward by hand either in low or high, when you let go of shifter it won't pop out of gear but light will be out and 4x4 won't stay engaged. It seems to work fine in reverse with override button depressed and not holding shift lever. would this be a neutral switch problem or an adjustment ? Thanks for any advice.

 

It is either the switch in the shifter or the hole in the shifter where the switch goes is wollered out.I have used a light strap to hold a small amount ofpreasure on the shifter to keep it working.
