Where does the oil spill from when machine is flipped?
#1
Hey guys, i was out riding yesterday with my g/f and I turned a little too quick while reversing and sent my Scrammy 500 on its side. I did a quick roll and sprang back up to right the machine. Still, a little oil came out but everything was fine, drove around for awhile afterwards. I was just wondering where the oil is spilling from. Also another quick question while you guys are reading this. After I dump the small amount of oil from that port on the lower passenger side (for the priming or something), does just adding more to the oil tank refill it or do I have to prime something? Its a 02 Scrambler 500 4x4.
Btw, this machine has been the most fun, reliable, impressive quad i've driven. I love it, plus no belt problems at all yet.

If you flip it oil should not come out anywhere. The crank case and oil tank is sealed. . If the oil tank is low then you can add to it. There is nothing to prime.

i washed the bottom of my quad once just cuz i was bored and oil came through the carb and into my air filter and air box so if u had it on its side long enough i guess that could of happend but thats quite unlikely i think

The oil tank is not sealed. There is a vent hose that runs from the top of the oil tank to the air cleaner housing. This hose is necessary to prevent pressure build-up in the crankcase that could cause engine seals to blow. On my '03 SP500, there is a small slit in the hose about 2" from the oil tank. This is there to relieve pressure build-up if the hose was to freeze up in cold weather. If I flip my quad, a small amount of oil can leak out of that slit.

i agree with the last 2 comments
oil will enter the airbox thru the breather hose and ruin a paper filter if it comes into contact with it
it is normal to have this happen if the quad is belly up
