Default 700 EFI Clutch Kit for 26

What is a good Clutch kit to purchase for a 2004 700 EFI Sportsman with 26" mud tires. Looking at Heelclicker, Dalton, EPI. Looking for something that engages right off idle and gets good low end belt grip but does not loss to much top end.

Most everyone says to go with Heelclicker...I was thinking of going with Dalton myself. I have not read much on EPI. Let me know what you find out. I have 26" Executioner tires on my 700 EFI and have not had the time to look at clutch kits, but I think the time is near.

I have a heel clicker in my 500. The heel clicker kit is not a "drop in and ride" but for some that is exactly what they are looking for. The 700 needs to have a shim put in it under the spider and from what I have read on other boards, the supplied shim is too thick. You need to have some clutch tools to do this. The belt squeeze on my 500 is very solid, no slipping at all it seems. You can tune this kit with weights and springs to suite your riding. I haven't put one in my 700 yet, the 2005 came with 26" tires and the 27" mudlites seem to be ok with stock clutching so far. I might pull the kit from the 500 and try it in the 700.

EPI makes some very good stuff and I think that Dalton is in the same boat. These 2 kits are spring changes and weights. Basic hand tools will get these installed. They are pretty close in cost.

Have you tried the tires and stock clutching yet? Mine seems to hook up in low no problem. Getting it rolling in high is a little more noticable.

I have a huge notice in belt slippage with these new tires. As you said, not so bad in low, but you can really feel and hear slippage in high. I think I am going to go with EPI since you can order directly from them. Dalton, you have to have order through a dealer ship..

I just found out that Bikeman Performance is selling kits that use the new Super Tip adjustable weights. I know this weight worked really well with the snowmobiles. The nice thing is you do not have to modify the clutch at all to make them work like the Heelclickers, and they have three positions to adjust low, mid, topend. I going to contact them to see what they say about it. Yes I have ran the stock clutching with the new tire, and have notice a big diffence in high gear. You can tell the belt is slipping alot more.

The 700 EFI is clutched awefully well from the factory.

If I was going to put a kit in one it would be a Dalton kit .

Can you find these kits online to order? I was looking at EPI because I could order one and have shipped to me online.

Rick,

Does the dalton kit have a really low engagement? Like right off idle. I know some kits raise the engagement for better take off.

The engagement Rpm is increased . The Rpms throughought the shiftout are increased aswell . This is neccessary to *regear* the clutch for the larger tire size .
