Just a question but... Will it still fit in the bed with the extra length from the brush guard?

 

Good point, thats why I went out to measure. Here are the measurements I got off my 04 with the brushguard:

Overall length: 87"
Back end - front tires: 85"
Front end - rear tires: 80"
Width: 48"

Those measurements are fairly accurate, but are erred on the big side for a buffer.

The middle two measurements are for counting the overhang over the tires (like the rear rack hanging over the tailgate of the truck.
I measured the truck, it was about 79" from the front of the box to the crack between the tailgate and bed floor. So it should fit with the tailgate down no problem, but almost definetly not with it closed.

 

Cool, glad you checked it. I know my Mag w/ brush guard will not fit in my F150 6.5bed... So I bought a 5x10 trailer, plus I have a fiberglass cover on the bed so I can lock stuff in it and didn't want to take it off

 

Wait when you say it doesnt fit, do you mean that it can't be done, or you can't close the tailgate?

 

With a closed tailgate... You should be ok with it open...

 

Very close in price with a bed liner. They are nice because everything will not slide around like it does with a bedliner.

 

You should have no problems with that. A couple things to consider with your tailgate down.

One, if you have a wheel jack kit on the front of the trailer, make sure its the one that folds up around so it doesnt hit your tailgate.

Next is when you unload your atv off the trailer, be careful when unhooking the trailer to get the atv off so the trailer doesnt lift up and hit the tailgate. What I have done before was use ramps to unload from bed to trailer then trailer off.

 

Thanks for the tip jwyles. I did have the swivel-up tongue jack, but I pulled forward with the wheel down once. So now I just have an often-broken back. The trailer is also covered, so I cant bridge the gap between the truck and trailer. And the trailer tilts on its own, so no fear of hitting the tailgate. Only thing is that the ramps I used to use on the trailer (now I tilt) are a little trashed, because some of the hinge pins started to fall out and I kept using them. Now, almost all the pins are missing and the hinges are bent and screwed up.

Ok, I have a 2004 ram 1500 quad cab with a short bed. I can close my tailgate with my Sportsman 700 in the bed. There is a small trick to it. I put a set of car ramps in the front and drive up on them. This small 6 inch increase on the front locks the tires against the bed so the quad cant come through the rear window and allows me to shut the tailgate. You might want to give it a try.

 

Now thats a great tip! I'll let my buddy know that because he hates not being able to close the tailgate.. to the point of wanting another truck!!
