I live in MN. We have a lot of state funded trails so whatever the state says, goes. Any ATV that is over 800 pounds or 800cc's is no longer an ATV. It's a car.

LOL

Good one Xepathfinder, I wonder if it will get a Intel PIII 1GHZ or an AMD TBird 1GHZ?

OK GUYS I AM NOT TRYING TO START A FIGHT. THESE FORUMS ARE TO DISCUSS & SHARE INFO, THOUGHTS & IDEAS. I WILL TRY TO RESPOND TO EVERYONE.
FIRST LEDEBUHR1
ACCORDING TO YOUR HP CACULATING PROCESS AN 800cc TWO STROKE ENGINE WOULD ONLY MAKE 72 HP(400L MAKES 36HP X 2) WHEN IN FACT IT MAKES 130HP. THE ENGINE IS ALREADY TURNING THE CRANKSHAFT, FLYWHEEL, WATERPUMP, STATOR, & COUNTERBALANCER. ADDING CYLINDERS TO AN ENGINE GIVES MORE POWER BECAUSE YOU ALREADY HAVE ROTATING MASS. I DO NOT HAVE DYNO CHARTS FOR THE 700 I AM ONLY RELAYING WHAT I WAS TOLD BY CREDIBLE SOURCES.
MY SOURCES? WHILE BUILDING THE 2000 SCRAMBLER WITH 2000 EXPLORER TRANS, & 1999 TRAILBLAZER WITH 2000 800TWIN WE HAVE MET MANY PEOPLE IN PERSON OVER THE PHONE & VIA E-MAIL. BOTH THESE MACHINES ARE REAL WE COULDNT HAVE BUILT THEM WITHOUT HELP. ARE MY SOURCES REAL? (GREGSIMS HAS SEEN THE SCRAMBLER)
800TWIN (BUILT BY MY PARTNER) FUEL RANGE, REVERSE, GROUND CLEARENCE, WIDTH, & EXHAUST BURNS ARENT AN ISSUE. THE ENGINE IS NEW & STOCK THE ONLY MODS ARE K&N FILTERS AND CUSTOM DRAG PIPES MADE BY OLAV AAEN. IT IS AS RELIABLE AS A 2000 MODEL SLED. THE RADIATOR IS FROM A 2000 SPORTSMAN. THIS IS A DRAG ONLY MACHINE IT MAKES TO MUCH POWER TO TRAIL RIDE.
500SCRAMBLER 55HP? YES IT IS POSSIBLE WITH THE INSTALL OF PISTON CAM CARB & EXHAUST. RELIABLE? NO!! FREQUENT TRIPS IN THE 6500RPM RANGE WILL BREAK CRANKSHAFTS. I AM WORKING ON AN ALUMINUM FLYWHEEL. RELIABILTY WITH THIS MACHINE IS NOT AN ISSUE IT IS ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD & I HAVE REPLACED MORE PARTS THAN I CARE TO MENTION. WHY DO WE DO THIS? TO HAVE THE BIGGEST BADDEST FASTEST MOST POWERFULL MACHINES POSSIBLE. WE DONT LIKE TO LOSE OR GET STUCK.
CARTMAN308 I DIDNT SAY ALL TEST MACHINES ARE TWISTING CENTERS OUT OF RIMS. I DID NOT ASK WHAT THE TEST SITUATION WAS. HOWEVER I DO KNOW THAT IN THICK MUD REAR AXLES CAN BE EASILY BROKEN & ITP BILLET WHEELS WILL STRETCH & CRACK THE LUG HOLES.
ALSO THE INDESTRUCTIBLE SIDEWINDER STAINLESS SPROKETS(LOL) LAST ONLY ABOUT 2 MONTHS. (THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS NO MATTER HOW MUCH MONEY YOU HAVE SPENT WITH THEM. OK I'LL GET OFF MY SOAPBOX). I WILL ASK WHAT THE CONDITIONS WERE THAT TWISTED THE CENTER OUT OF THE RIM.
POLARX250 THERE WILL BE PICS AND FULL TECH SHEETS ON ALL OF OUR MACHINES BY NEXT WEEK @WWW.BERTSDIRTWORKS.COM
GREGSIMS HOW MANY WILL BE IN YOUR GROUP AT ALTO?
HAVE YOU RESERVED YOU CAMPSITES YET. WE HAVE NOT. I WILL RESERVE OURS THIS WEEK E-MAIL ME IF YOU WANT TO CAMP BESIDE US.
I HOPE THIS HELPS CLEAR THINGS UP. AGAIN I AM NOT MAKEING THINGS UP, JUST PASSING ALONG INFO.

thanks for clearing things up bert
if that 78hp thing is true it would be a rocket! i kinda think polaris will calm the engine down for liablilty reasons, they dont want to get slaped by the govt like honda did for the 250r.

Bert,

I am not 100% sure I can go yet. I will confirm when I know more. I look forward to some serious competition if I do make it. (LMAO) This is not a spectator sport.

A few months ago I saw a picture of a Grizzly with a V-Max engine in it. I don't remember which magazine it was in. I thought that might be kinda cool, over kill, but cool. 1200cc v-4, 150hp, and gobs of torque. I know because I ride a 94 V-Max. Although I can't imagine being able to control something with that much power off road. I suppose there would be a certain amount of prestige in saying that you owned one, even if you were to scared to ride it!

Actually Bert I think you have that backwards. One large cylinder with a long stroke will produce more torque then two smaller cylinders with a shorter stroke. Assuming displacement is equal. The two smaller cylinders will alow the engine to take in more air and rev higher then a single cylinder there by generating more HP. Since HP is directly related to how much air an engine can take in, multiple cylinders will usually generate more HP. But less torque then the same size engine with fewer cylinders, but larger pistons with a longer stroke. Since the longer the stroke is the more leverage the piston rods have on the crank, the more torque you have. The formula your talking about for figuring HP as I recall is TORQUExRPM/5252. But HP is just a measure of how fast an engine will get a given job done. HP don't really mean much for a utility quad.

Reliable source: 700 twin dynos at 48 HP. Dont see how it can live at 78 HP in a utility quad. A stock 1340 Harley motor doesn't put out that kind of figures. Maybe a Japanese crotch rocket can put out that HP but not have the torque you need in a utility quad. Dont see how you can play in the rocks or pull a load with high HP and no low end torque.
