While riding the neighbors 00scram 400 I hit some really deep whoops fast. I hit the brakes hard then back on the gas hard. I then realized that it would not upshift at all .It was reving it's guts out at 15 mph. It would still shift from forward to reverse but would not upshift at all. It's kind of like being stuck in 1st gear 4-low in a 4wd vehicle. Does this sound like broken clutch buttons? It has the 440 kit, cylinder girdle, pipe and larger carb. He was told by the mech. that built his quad that he probably needed to install the HPD aluminum clutch buttons but he hadn't gotten around to it yet. I hope thats all thats wrong with it. What do you guys think?

I had a similar experience over the weekend. I have a 400 Scrambler with Port/Polish/Bored Carb/Delta Reeds/12.5:1 head/.040 over Wiseco. I also have an AAEN roller clutch. My bike ran fine in reverse but wouldn't shift in forward. Turns out the bolts that hold the roller clutch in place broke off. Luckily I caught it early and no damage was done but just to be sure I tapped the holes for 1/4" x 20 bolts going up from the #8 x 24's that come stock. My guess is either your friends buttons cracked or bolts snapped. He won't be able to tap the holes larger if the bolts cracked without going to the roller clutch. I actually don't know if what I did is going to work either until I have a chance to really ride hard this weekend. Just riding around in the yard everything has been working fine.
