Default Brakes Squeek

They're not worn. What's a good way to get the rear brakes to stop squeaking?

I've sprayed wd40 on the rotor for other quads I've had in the past. I'm not sure if that would harm the pads, so I'm looking for other solutions.

Thanks.

I'm in the same boat you are mine have squeeked from day one. The dealer told me it was because they were disc brakes and dirt and stuff get in there and make them squeek. I went to the auto parts store and bought some disc brake quiet and it work for one ride then started squeeking again.

I think I will try olive oil. It works on everything else.

almost all those brakes squeek bc of the terrain you put them through, mine squeek and to me it tells me they are working, but try brake cleaner, can be bought at anywhere, when you spray it wipe the rotors down with a shop rag or towel after spraying. But i would say that you are just going to have to live with the sqeeking

its from sand and stuff in there. i would advise against the lubricants on the rotors ive found it makes your brakes not work nearly as well. Best bet is to get down in there when your washing and line up your hose or pressure washer so it gets water right up in there between the pads and the disks and spray them out good. When that mud starts to dry up it loves to squeak.

well all i know is that my wife ride an '02 sportsman 400 and i ride a04 kaw 700.
we ride the same trails.
hers has allways sqeaked and mine hasn't.
i'd like to retrofit another manufacturers brake system on her.
i bet it would solve the problem.

remove pads and sand with emery cloth.
then sand rotor in a circular motion both sides

kentuck,
i tried that, tried the blue anti-squeal stuff in a tube, tried putting duct tape on the backs of the pads and some silver spray that you spray on the disks and none of it work for more than 30 minutes except the duct tape lasted a couple of days.

hey hardwood...on your atv, is there disk in the rear on yours as well? if there isn't, that is why yours doesn't squeek, but if there is and you have 2 disc in the rear and we only have one, that is another reason your wifes does and yours don't..if yours has a single like your wifes, and still doesn't squeek, then i wish polaris would listen and learn on the rear disc from your kawi..lol- pb500

hey polarisbear500,

no. mine doesn't have a disk on the rear. it has a wet brake system.
but it does have disks up front.
are you saying that the rear brake on the polaris is whats making the noise?
oh. one other thing i tried was putting 0.010" thick shim between the pad and the piston. didn't work.
