If its for a car than no, unless it is a 6 pulse tach. It may work for a 2 stroke but not for your 500. I just put one on mine. I got a polaris snowmobile tach off ebay for $25 and got it hooked up thanks to theCATman.

I am in the progress of making a tutorial on installing a tach. I will post it as soon as my membership here kicks in(admin?) and I get more slots for more pics!

here is one here:

I thought I read somewere the scrambler fires 6 times per rotation. giving you 6 pulses, I may be wrong. That is why I got a 6 pulse from a sled that is 3 cylinders, fires 2 times per rotation, but has 3 cylinders so thats 2 per cylinder, giving you 6 pulses per rotation. Im not sure if this is correct but its what I have gathered from reading MANY posts on tachs for 2 and 4 strokes.

I did many searches for tach posts, and found the tiny tachs are to slow to use for tuning clutches, and any digital one is harder to read than an analog one. The good ones I have found are around $100. Rick Ritter sells one for around $100 I believe. After all the research I did I found the best thing for me was ebay. As I will not keep it on the quad, it is just for testing and tunning.

I don't think so, it is a 2 stroke. Not sure though.

???

Engine stroke isnt the problem, cycles are. A 2 stroke still fires its plug(s) the same way. I'm still not sure how you get 6 cylcles for a four stroke single though...

Not sure on the Indy 650, but I am positive about an XLT or XCR 600 tach working just fine.

The way I figure it works is because, a 2 smoker typically runs on a 2 pulse system, but because the XLT & XCRs are 3cyl. triples they need a 6 pulse tach. 3 cyls.X 2 pulse per cyl.=6 pulse system needed to read RPM's of engine.

Thats fine, but how do you know the 4 stroke scramber uses a 6 pulse? Why would the coil pulse 6 times?

I talked to Rick Ritter about this a while back and he told me that the Scrambler (500 HO motor) uses a 6 pulse ignition. He has a Westach Tach that works (for around $85) with the 6 pulse ignition. Why? Im not sure. But that is the way they set it up.
