800 EFI Engine is Knocking
I am actually on my second new Sportsman 800 EFI. The first one ran great until about 37 miles, then it began to cut out when accellorating. The dealler couldn't find the problem so they gave me a new bike. I have only been riding around my neighborhood in order to break the new one in, and now with only 4 miles on it, the engine is knocking when in idle. When the RPM's are increased, it seems to go away. Yet, the more it warms up, the louder it gets. Not too terribly loud, but enough to bother the mess out of me. Anyone else have this problem? I took it to another dealer closer to home, and they said it 's normal, yet my first 800 EFI didn't do it. Please share if you have any info.

I was having the same troubles with the cut out and the knocking, I hear that knock to some degree on every polaris i have rode i don't think it anything to worry about. i have learned from other people on this site that the cut out is glazed belt because of not breaking in the belt good enough, and my dealer said that the clutch weights weren't closing fast enough causing the glaze anyway put a new belt on mine and has been running great since. am thinking of aftermarket clutches and belt for those with any suggestions. Well Keep on wheelin!

I also have an 800 EFI and I have the same knockin noise at idle. It gets worse when the engine warms up but is gone when you accelerate. It is related to the hydraulic lifters that make the noise when the oil pressure is low at idle. I have had my dealer look at it and tested some other 800's in stock and all the twins make the noise to some degree. Every ATV's (ie. BF 750 have wierd gear wine) have their own unique noises and take it from me the best thing to do is just ignore it and enjoy your ride.
