Default wind probelms...

this has been makin me mad. i have an '04 400 sportsman and whenever i drive into the wind i lose about 10 mph on my top speed. with no wind i can go 55 at about 6500 rpm but i can only go about 43 at 6200 rpm. it may be my 200 pound carcass but i dont know. i dont know what shape the belt is in, i cant even figure out how that cover comes off. any help would be appreciated.

With all due respect farmdawg, if you can't figure out how to take that cover off then maybe you shouldn't mess with it at all!

As for the sail effect from your carcass, that's quite possible when added to the rather high profile of a utility quad. Streamlined they ain't!

My 400 has been the same way since day one. Just gotta learn to deal with it I guess. As for the clutch guard, you have to pull off the left footwell in order to get it off. If you just take a peek down there, it's pretty easy to figure out. Four bolts on the bottom of the footwell, and a few screws in each fender and away you go.
