I had the 02 Trail Boss in 2 1/2 feet of water this weekend. We had a blast riding the terrain. I noticed that after that when I would get the quad good and wet again the transmission would slip real bad for a time until it "dried" out. Is this all I need to do is let it dry out or do I need to tighten something to prevent this from happening time and time again when it gets soaked in a foot of water or so. Any help would be appreciated.

 

Ive ridden my 325 without any problems in the water but my buddy has a polaris and he had the issue. Water in the belt drive area is not a great thing. I would first check to see if your belt is worn out because that wont help either. Make sure the seal on the belt drive enclosure is seated correctly and closed tight when you put it back on. I belive the case vents to a higher point on the bike, Im at school till tuesday night so I cant actually look at mine and tell you, but check where it vents to and see if that level was submerged under the water. Also, if you can avoid hitting the water from dry land at high speeds as this pressure can force the water into the belt drive area. (like flying down the side of the river and plunging in at 25 or 30) Somebody on here could probably tell you if theres better sealing methods like silicone or somthing to put on the belt cover when you reinstall it.

 

Yea you probably have a seal bad or your clutch cover has a hole in it. When I take my cover off I always add some vasoline to the clutch cover seal and have never had a problem. I went creek riding this weekend in some pretty deep stuff and never got the belt wet.

 

Thanks for the input guys. I will pull the cover and see what it looks like behind there. I may raise the vent hose up also if water is possibly coming in there.

 

Also make sure the vent hose connection isn't allowing water in. On mine it was only held by a tie strap. Only had a problem once with mine, but then again it was almost floating.
