Well, I have had time to sit on it and after much consideration and the opinions of you fine folks I decided to go with the scrambler. Now for the cash [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]
I figure between the Imperial Sand Dunes, the Sonora desert around phoenix and the pine forests of Flagstaff, the Scrabler would be a better fit to cover dirt, sand, mud, hills, rocks, snow, etc.

What about Patton? How would it do in the bowls?
Lastly, what would be a good place to order parts online? I know a ton of shops around phoenix but I know stuff tends to be cheaper over the net.

The only thing my bike had was a HPD pipe and silencer with 8 paddle haulers. I've done it so I know it can be done. Oldsmobile hill was nothing. He may have seen a wore out bike trying to make it up. I didn't fly up China Wall but I did make it. Look at pic 9 in the gallery. There's a pic of me climbing it.
I'm not sure about Patton?? It did do great on the bowls. They were a total blast.
On parts I would buy from Rick Ritter @ Ritter Cycle. He's the best in the buisiness. He sells his own stuff and HPD. I'm a big fan of HPD's stuff. Rick usually answers the phone himself and his customer service can't be beat. His number is 618-644-3211

By patton I mean when you go through Patton valley its real flat and then you come across a giant wall of sand, maybe thats china wall?
Im really looking for a quad that will perform well from the dunes to 7k elevation in the snow. Something that can crawl through the desert mud without effort, yet at the same time haul through unpacked snow.
I just really want to stay away from this "well, he has a scrambler, lets take the easy way" From what your saying i dont think it should be a problem. 500cc is more then enough [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]

I'm sorry man. I have a 400 two stroke. I don't think a 500 could make it up China. No offense to the 500 it's a great bike just not for tall dune climbing. The 500 would probably be your best bet as far as going from low to higher elevations(less jetting concerns). The 400 would be a better dune bike I think.

Hmmm, that puts a spin on things.
Well my bud with the DS is telling me as long as I don't go through deep mud (dont plan on it) and I dont get in snow deeper then 1ft (not going to be riding in a blizzard) that any 2 wheel drive will do what I need it to do, nobbies or paddles.
How would the Predator do up china wall or oldsmobile?
I know a 4 stroke would be better for the altitude change then a 2. I got a buddy that wont take his 86 Suzuki 250 up north cause he doesnt want to screw with the jets; I dont want that. But at the same time he can fly up hills in 3rd gear like its nothing.
If anything I need to head up to Rye and test drive them, but I dont want to do that until Im ready to bring it home with me.
How often do you use the 4x4? Is it at all useful in the dunes or it is mostly a bad weather thing?

Mine is a 2X4. If you ride dunes the most then I would reccomend a 2 stroke. They just flat out do better in the sand. If you are going to be doing a lot of desert and mountain/mud then the 4 stroke would be the best choice cause that way you wouldn't have to re-jet (it's really not that hard to do when you do it a couple of times). If you want lots of horsepower then the 400 two stroke is the way to go(it can be modded up to 80 hp). If you just want a bike that you can just get on and go have fun then I think you would like the 500 more.
I'm sure the Predator could make it up China with the right mods and I know it will make it up Olds. no problem.
