Look for the black wire coming off of cdi. This should be the ground for etc, throttle control. If this is disconnected or broke machine will not shut off with key or kill switch. It is a male and female spade on 500 sportsman close to coil on left side of frame running out of cdi. You can jump this to ground and it should kill machine.

 

Did that.........still runs. That's why I order a new CDI for it.
