Lost ignition key
#1
Well I lost the key for my 1992 tb 250, the dealer can't get me a replacement. He has to get me the whole switch assembly, $50.00 YIKES. It seems the ebay watchers also know the value. All I need is a key, the # is on the switch so I can identify which one it is. Any suggestions thanks.

my buddy lost both keys to his quad and all he did was take the VIN to the dealer and they cut him 2 new keys. a little tip, dont keep both of the keys on the same ring
or im sure you can cross a few wires and by-pass the key all together... lol

You have to get the key series to get the blank, like the key may say 25xx, you need a blank key with number 25. Once you get the blank at the dealer, you can take it somewhere to get cut. I think the blank was somewhere aroung 10 dollars? The local hardware store cut it for free. But if you don't have a spare to get copied, I'm not sure what to do, unless you can get the key pattern from the VIN like EdgeRacing said.
I have my spare on my quad so I dont lose it, I lost the main key a few weeks ago and was glad I had the spare to copy. Make sure to have one somewhere safe, like in the house, so if you lose yours you have something to copy.

So the # on the switch says 3241 the 32 is the blank # ? Then what? The dealer should be able to figure the rest out ? I don't think my regular shop cuts keys maybe I'll have to go to a larger dealer for answers.
Thanks for the input.

Well no, that number is the series, the design of the blank. The actual cut pattern will vary with your key, but EdgeRacing says that the dealer can cut it with your VIN number, not sure though.
My dealer doesnt cut keys either, I'm not sure what you should do. Give them a call though, see what they say. A new ignition seems a little drastic.

a locksmith will do it for you... much cheaper then getting the whole new system
