How do I fix this?
#11
I own three motorcycles and three fourwheelers. You would think I learn how to fix these damn things! never the less I love riding them and racing them.
your right about the 4wd. I noticed she had the 4wheel drive button on when I got back to the truck. Shes a beginner rider and its easier for her to ride in 4wd.
If its 1500 to fix, I think I will buy a new one. 800 I could swallow I guess, thats not to bad.
How much would you buy it for?

I have a 99 Scrambler 4x4. I removed the front drive assembly to lighten the machine. When I got to the front cv joint I thought oh god, how the hell does this come apart. It actually very easy to pull the drive shaft out of the joint. You can just yank it out to get it to come apart. You should be able to just take the boot off and clean off that grease and pop it back in. There is a ring that holds the shaft in there. I wonder how it popped out though? Is it possible there is suspension damage? Like a bent A-arm?

The A Arms look fine. I think I probably poped it out when I replaced the a arm bushings and never had it back in correctly. I dont need to pop them out. They are already laying there. I need to know how to put them back in and know if they are damaged.

Hoopie, if you havent already, take the entire front hub assembly apart and clean all the grease off the joint. Then you should be able to see if the joint is damaged. Try to push the joint back onto the shaft. You may need to replace the ring the shaft slides into. The ***** in the joint may also be damaged.
Here is link to a CV joint explanation. This may help. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constant-velocity_joint

Its not very hard to replace these. I took mine apart to check if it got bent when I hit a tree. Just be carefull with the bearings and spacers in the hub.
A guy I rode with said he snapped both front shafts at the same time. He said he accidently hit the 4x4 button when he was doing donuts at full throttle. The second it happend he snapped both front shafts. She may have done the same thing, but not at full throttle. If she was in mud or anything to make the rear tires spin out and engaged the 4x4 it could have caused this.

I'd have to say my course of action would have been to pour gas all over it and set it on fire. Probably could have saved alot of money if i did that when my polaris started having problems. JK, i loved that thing and it was about worth the money, but for future reference, you might consider taking it to an independant repair shop just to have it looked at. If they're anything like the people around here you can probably get their estimate and a dealer estimate. I thought it was just an exagorated price to get me to get it done at the shop at the time, but it was actaully pretty acurate.
